Jazz bands originated in New Orleans in the early 20th century. The 1940s is the only time in history when the popularity of live jazz surpassed all other musical genres in the United States. It was known as the the big band era of jazz band music, and during this time, swing jazz bands and big jazz bands reigned supreme.

Big Shoes to fill

Jazz big bands like those of Duke Ellington, Woody Herman, Count Basie, and others upheld the tradition through the 1950s and 1960s. Today, the David Arthur Band provides an authentic representaion of many types of jazz bands that you can choose to have performed at your special event or wedding reception. We provide a small jazz combos which play light dinner jazz. Or, we can get the whole group together for lively big-band style party.
